Where It Comes From

A spring in a glacial landscape.

As the last ice sheet retreated from southern Ontario roughly 12,000 years ago, it left behind the Oak Ridges Moraine: a long ridge of sand and gravel that today acts as one of the region's most important natural water filters.

Rain and snowmelt soak slowly down through those layers, picking up minerals on the way. That is where Icy Blue's character comes from. We collect it at the spring and bottle it there, so what reaches you is the same water that came out of the ground.

  • ✓
A protected landscape The Oak Ridges Moraine is protected under Ontario law, which helps safeguard the water that recharges it.
  • ✓
Bottled at the source Filled where it is drawn, in Ontario, rather than trucked elsewhere first.
  • ✓
Filtered by the land itself Natural filtration through sand and gravel as the water moves underground.
  • ✓
Alkaline by nature Its pH comes from dissolved minerals, not from machines or added chemicals.

The Story

From ice age to your glass

A simple story, told plainly: a landscape, a natural filter, and a bottle.

01
❄️

The landscape

About 12,000 years ago

As the last ice sheet melted back across southern Ontario, it left a vast ridge of sand and gravel: the Oak Ridges Moraine.

02
⛰️

The filter

Year after year

Rain and snowmelt percolate down through the moraine's sand and gravel, naturally picking up minerals like calcium and magnesium on the way.

03
💧

The bottle

Today

The water emerges naturally alkaline at pH 8.1 and is bottled at the source in Ontario. Nothing is added, and nothing is taken out on purpose.

What's in It

Just water, and the minerals the land gave it.

Typical values from our laboratory analysis. Natural spring water varies slightly over time, so check the label on your bottle for the current figures.

Mineral

49.5 mg/L

Calcium

A naturally occurring mineral that contributes to the water's taste and mouthfeel.

Mineral

15.5 mg/L

Magnesium

Another natural mineral from the moraine, adding to the water's soft, balanced character.

Low Sodium

4.69 mg/L

Sodium

Low in sodium, with a light, crisp finish and no salty aftertaste.

Naturally alkaline vs. made alkaline

There are two ways water ends up alkaline. Here is how they differ, and what we think is worth knowing.

Question Icy Blue (natural) Processed alkaline water
Where does the alkalinity come from? Minerals dissolved naturally as the water moves through the moraine Usually electrolysis, or minerals and salts added after filtering
What is added? Nothing Varies by brand. Check the label.
Where does the water start? A spring in the Oak Ridges Moraine Often municipal tap water or purified water
An honest note Your body regulates its own pH tightly. We don't claim water changes it. We choose pH 8.1 water because it tastes clean and smooth. Health claims for alkaline water are still debated. Be sceptical of big promises, ours included.

Questions

Straight answers

Plain responses about our source, our water and how to buy it.

Why is Icy Blue naturally alkaline?

As rain and snowmelt move through the moraine, they dissolve small amounts of minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Those minerals raise the water's pH to around 8.1. We don't use electrolysis or add anything to change it. Natural spring water can vary slightly over time, so the figure on your bottle is the one to trust.

Does alkaline water change my body's pH?

No. Your body tightly regulates its own pH, and drinking any water won't meaningfully change it. We make no medical claims. We think pH 8.1 water from a mineral-rich spring tastes clean and smooth, and that's why we bottle it. If you have health questions about your hydration or diet, your doctor is the right person to ask.

Where is the Oak Ridges Moraine?

It's a long ridge of sand and gravel across south-central Ontario, north of Lake Ontario, formed as the last ice sheet melted back roughly 12,000 years ago. Today it is protected under provincial law and plays a major role in feeding the region's rivers and groundwater.

Are your bottles recyclable?

Our bottles and caps are BPA-free PET (#1), which most Canadian curbside programs accept. Recycling rules vary by municipality, so please check your local guidelines.

How long does it keep?

Every bottle carries a best-before date. For the best taste, store sealed bottles somewhere cool and dark, away from direct sunlight and strong odours.
